In April 2024, James Thompson was staring at a $340 Greyhound ticket from Winnipeg to Toronto. He had a reliable car, a full tank of gas, and an empty passenger seat. The math didn't add up.
He posted a simple message in a local travel Facebook group: "Driving Winnipeg to Toronto next weekend. Anyone want to split gas?" Within 24 hours, 47 people had responded. By the weekend, he had a full car and three new friends.
The problem was obvious: people wanted to share rides, but there was no safe, organized way to do it. The solution was just as obvious — build the platform that makes it effortless.
Today, RideCarpooling.com is the fastest-growing cross-border rideshare network in North America. But we still operate with the same spirit as that first Facebook post: help people move, together.

We're not just moving people from A to B. We're rethinking how North America travels.
Every decision starts with the people in our cars. Drivers, passengers, and the communities we serve — their safety, comfort, and dignity come before everything else.
Every shared ride removes a car from the road. We've helped prevent over 2.8M kg of CO2 emissions since launch — and we track every gram.
Verified drivers, masked phone numbers, real-time tracking, and 24/7 emergency support. We don't compromise on safety. Ever.
Carpooling shouldn't stop at a border. We're building the first truly cross-border rideshare network in North America.
That's our north star. Whether it's a student saving $80 on a trip home, a driver earning $200 on their commute, or a family reducing their carbon footprint — every shared ride makes a difference.
From a spreadsheet to a seed-funded startup in under 2 years.
James Thompson, a frequent traveller between Winnipeg and Toronto, grew tired of expensive solo drives and unreliable bus schedules. He posted a simple Facebook group asking if anyone wanted to split gas on his next trip. 47 people responded in 24 hours.
The Facebook group grew to 2,000 members. James built a basic spreadsheet to match drivers with passengers by route and date. It was clunky, but it worked — 300 successful carpools in the first month.
Incorporated as 2-Nice Rideshare & Carpooling Transport Services Inc. in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Hired Sarah Chen as CTO to build the first platform prototype. Registered the domain ridecarpooling.com.
RideCarpooling.com goes live with support for 6 Canadian cities. First 1,000 rides booked within the first 60 days. Introduced driver verification with licence upload and background checks.
Expanded into the United States with routes from Toronto to New York, and Vancouver to Seattle. Added USD pricing and multi-currency support. Hit 10,000 registered users.
Launched in Mexico with routes to Monterrey, Guadalajara, and Mexico City. Released the first mobile-responsive design. Introduced real-time tracking and in-app messaging.
Closed a $2.5M seed round led by Canadian venture firm True North Ventures. Used funds to hire the core team, build the native app (iOS & Android), and expand to 50+ cities.
