Great carpooling experiences don't happen by accident. These are the community standards that make every trip better for everyone — passengers and drivers alike.
The most important do's and don'ts at a glance.
Filter by category to find what's relevant to you.
Drivers have schedules and other passengers to consider. Arrive at the pickup point at least 5 minutes early. If you're running late, message the driver immediately. Repeated lateness can affect your rating.
Set a reminder 30 minutes before pickup.
Don't show up with 3 suitcases when you said you had a backpack. Discuss luggage size and quantity with the driver before booking. Oversized bags may not fit and can cause issues for other passengers.
Mention your luggage in the booking message.
Some drivers are fine with snacks, others aren't. Always ask before eating or drinking in the car. Strong-smelling food is generally a no — it lingers for the rest of the trip.
Eat before you get in the car to be safe.
Not everyone wants to chat for 5 hours. Read the room — if the driver seems focused or quiet, don't force conversation. Headphones are fine, but keep volume low enough that you can hear the driver.
Ask early: "Do you prefer quiet rides or chatting?"
The driver planned their route around your agreed pickup location. Changing it at the last minute disrupts the whole trip. If you genuinely need a different spot, ask well in advance.
Confirm the exact pickup address when booking.
Passengers are paying for a comfortable ride. A clean, odour-free car is the baseline expectation. Vacuum regularly, remove trash, and avoid strong air fresheners that can trigger allergies.
Do a quick clean before every trip.
Your passengers are trusting you with their lives. No speeding, no aggressive driving, no phone use while driving. If you need to check your phone, pull over safely. Your rating depends on it.
Use a phone mount and set up navigation before you leave.
Don't make unplanned detours or stops without asking passengers first. If you need to stop for fuel, let everyone know. Unexpected route changes can make passengers uncomfortable.
Plan your fuel stops before the trip starts.
If you're running late, message passengers immediately. If there's a traffic issue or route change, let everyone know. Silence breeds anxiety — a quick message goes a long way.
Message passengers the morning of the trip to confirm.
Always check the driver's profile photo, name, and vehicle details before getting in. Use the in-app verification feature to confirm identity. Never get into a car that doesn't match the booking.
Ask the driver to confirm your name before entering.
Before every ride, share your trip details with a trusted contact — the driver's name, vehicle, and route. Use the in-app "Share Trip" feature or send a screenshot. It takes 10 seconds.
Use the Share Trip button on the ride detail page.
If something feels wrong — the driver's behaviour, the route, anything — you have the right to ask to be let out at a safe location. Your safety is always more important than being polite.
The emergency contact feature is always one tap away.
When a driver or passenger messages you, respond within a reasonable time — especially in the 24 hours before the trip. Leaving people on read creates uncertainty and can lead to cancellations.
Enable push notifications for the app.
Reviews help the whole community. Be honest — if something was great, say so. If there was a genuine issue, mention it constructively. Don't leave fake 5-stars just to be nice, and don't leave revenge reviews.
Rate within 24 hours while the experience is fresh.
The platform is for ride coordination — not dating, not spam, not unsolicited personal messages. Keep all communication relevant to the trip. Inappropriate messages will result in account suspension.
Report any inappropriate messages immediately.
For cross-border trips (Canada ↔ USA ↔ Mexico), every passenger must have valid travel documents — passport, visa, or NEXUS card. The driver is not responsible for passengers who are denied entry.
Check entry requirements at least 48 hours before travel.
Border crossings can add 30 minutes to 3+ hours to your trip. Plan accordingly and don't book tight connections on the other side. Check wait times on the CBP or CBSA app before you leave.
NEXUS card holders use dedicated lanes — much faster.
Cross-border fares are set in the driver's home currency. Currency conversion happens at checkout. Discuss any additional costs (tolls, border fees) with the driver before booking.
Confirm the currency and total cost before confirming.
Your rating is your reputation on the platform. Here's what moves it up or down.
Ratings below 4.0 may result in account review or suspension. Drivers with ratings below 4.2 are flagged for review. Maintain a high rating by following these guidelines consistently.
Every member of our community — passenger and driver alike — agrees to treat each other with respect, communicate honestly, and prioritize safety above all else. That's what makes carpooling work.
