RideCarpooling.com has been named one of Canada's Top 10 Sustainable Startups in the 2025 CleanTech Awards, an annual recognition program that honours Canadian companies making measurable impact on urban carbon emissions and sustainable transportation. The award was presented at a ceremony in Toronto on December 8, 2025.

1.24M kg CO2 prevented in 2025
Equivalent to 57,000 trees planted
270 cars off the road for a year

The Selection Criteria

The CleanTech Awards evaluate startups across four dimensions: measurable environmental impact, scalability of the solution, community engagement, and innovation in technology or business model. RideCarpooling.com was selected for its ability to demonstrate quantified carbon savings — 1.24 million kg of CO2 prevented in 2025 alone — while building a business model that is both profitable and community-driven.

Environmental Impact at Scale

Every shared ride on RideCarpooling.com replaces solo driving for at least one passenger. With an average trip distance of 340 km and an average of 2.8 passengers per vehicle, each carpool ride prevents approximately 18.5 kg of CO2 emissions compared to equivalent solo driving. At current volumes, the platform prevents over 120,000 kg of CO2 every month.

  • Average CO2 saved per trip: 18.5 kg (based on 340 km average distance, 2.8 passengers)
  • Monthly CO2 prevention: 120,000+ kg across all operating regions
  • Annual 2025 total: 1.24 million kg — equivalent to planting 57,000 mature trees
  • Per-passenger impact: Each regular carpooler prevents ~2,200 kg CO2 per year

“RideCarpooling is proof that sustainability and profitability aren't opposing forces — they're mutually reinforcing. When you make it easier and cheaper for people to share rides, the environmental benefits follow naturally. This recognition belongs to our entire community of drivers and passengers who chose shared travel over solo driving.”

2026 Sustainability Commitments

Following the CleanTech recognition, RideCarpooling.com has committed to tripling its environmental impact in 2026. The company aims to prevent 3 million kg of CO2 emissions through expanded routes, a corporate carpooling program for businesses, and a new real-time CO2 savings tracker that shows users their cumulative environmental impact on every booking confirmation screen.

The company is also exploring partnerships with carbon credit marketplaces to allow high-impact users to monetize their savings, and with reforestation organizations to plant one tree for every 100 trips completed on the platform.
